The Board of Trustees

Jane Eccles

Managing Consultant, Utilities

I am the Managing Consultant of a successful utilities consultancy company and also act as a business coach and mentor. As an ex- colleague of Ruby I have long been inspired by her commitment to raising awareness of Platelet Function Disorders and generating much needed funds for research into this condition. I am therefore very privileged to take a more active role in Funny Blood – as Chair of the Board – and delighted that I have been given the opportunity to become a Trustee as and when Funny Blood becomes Incorporated.

Funny Blood has the opportunity to make a real difference to our understanding of this rare condition and, importantly, is providing funding and raising awareness in an area where there is little other help available. I hope to use my business experience and skills to further the aims of the organisation and bring benefits to those people who are affected by platelet function disorder.

Steve Watson

Professor in Cardiovascular Sciences

I am a British Heart Foundation Professor in Cardiovascular Sciences in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham.  I am the head of a team of scientists and medical doctors investigating all aspects of platelet biology, including patients with platelet dysfunction disorders like Noah.  Our research is supported various research charities and government funding agencies including the British Heart Foundation, Wellcome Trust and National Institute of Health Research.

I was delighted and honoured to accept the  invitation to support Funny Blood because of all that Ruby and Funny Blood have already achieved in raising public awareness of platelet function disorders and because there is still so much more to be done both in terms of continuing to inform and publicise, but also in terms of supporting research into this group of very rare bleeding disorders.  I shall also be delighted to accept the opportunity to become a Trustee of Funny Blood when it achieves Charitable Status.

I hope to be able to bring my scientific knowledge of platelets and my contact with other basic and clinical platelet scientists to enable Funny Blood to continue to grow and to ensure that it is kept up to date with current and future developments in platelet research, so that this will bring not only benefits to Noah but also to other children and adults diagnosed with platelet function disorders.

Rhys Humm

Director of Holywell Malvern Spring Water

I am Rhys Humm, Director of the Holywell Water Company, which bottles and sells Holywell Malvern Spring Water. The Holywell business has really taken off in the last 18 months, now with a diverse portfolio of customers that include, Worcester Warriors, Michelin starred chefs Glynn Purnell and Claude Bosi as well as Rolls Royce Corporate Hospitality.

When Ruby approached me with regard to Holywell offering its support to Funny Blood it seemed a natural fit to become involved as we both have strong aspirations in driving forward our respective projects. I was further delighted to be offered the opportunity to be a Trustee of Funny Blood when it achieves Charitable Status. I hope to be able to offer my business experience and contacts, coupled with my position as Chairman of Malvern Hills Round Table to benefit and drive forward Funny Blood. I believe the efforts conceived here to benefit Noah could have a positive reach far beyond for many other children affected with similar conditions.

Funny Blood has the potential to change lives …
